Megan Ballard is a surrealist collage illustrator, removing images from their original context and inviting us into her bizarre and conceptual creations. She uses a variety of processes to create her collages, incorporating the surrealist technique of ‘automatism’, which involves giving up control over elements of the creative process to exterior forces. Megan integrates this concept into her work through using random word generators to create a starting point for image exploration, among other techniques.

Megan enjoys exploring public domain collections to source images for her collages, discovering interesting photos and artworks to reintroduce and recontextualise for a contemporary audience.

Outside of producing her own work, Megan volunteers with a local children’s art club, and has produced branding for a local charity’s monthly event.

Megan recently graduated from Swansea College of Art, after studying BA Illustration.
